48 hours in North Goa
Two days, two moods — one for the coast and its colour, one for the churches, temples and old lanes that made Goa, Goa.

Three days in North Goa from a Calangute base: one direction a day, outings timed around the midday sun, and a plain list of what to save for next time.
Yes, if you keep to North Goa: one day south along the coast to Fort Aguada, one inland to Old Goa and Panjim, and one north to Anjuna and Chapora. Leave South Goa's beaches for a longer trip.
Three days is enough for a good first look at Goa, as long as you keep to the north and let go of seeing the whole state. The plan works because of where Calangute sits: on the coast between Fort Aguada to the south and Chapora Fort to the north, with Panjim (Panaji), the capital, 13 km from Ocean Palms Goa. So each day goes one way only: south along the coast, inland to the churches, then north to the cliffs.
For North Goa, yes. Three days covers the beaches from Sinquerim to Vagator, two old forts, the UNESCO-listed churches of Old Goa and the old quarter of Panjim, with time left over to sit still. If you only have a weekend, 48 hours in North Goa folds the coast and the culture into two days.
It is not enough for the whole state, and it helps to accept that before you land. Palolem lies in Canacona, at the far southern end of Goa, so a day there means a long drive each way and one fewer day in the north. Dudhsagar Falls needs a full day of its own, and Ponda's temples and spice farms most of another, so they sit on the list at the end.
Every day has the same shape: out early, into the shade for the middle of the day, then out again for the late light and the sunset. Drishti, the state's beach lifesaving agency, advised avoiding direct sun between noon and 3 PM in its April 2026 summer advisory, and in the cooler months that window still makes a sensible break. Sunset at Calangute comes at around 6 PM from November to mid-December, about 6:20 PM by mid-January and nearer 6:45 PM in March.
The days can run in any order, so fit them to the calendar. Old Goa's Archaeological Museum is closed on Fridays, and Anjuna's flea market is held on Wednesdays in season. If your trip includes 3 December, the Feast of St Francis Xavier and a Goa public holiday, Old Goa fills with pilgrims, so pick another day unless the feast is why you came.
Start on the sand before the heat builds. The nearest beach is about 650 m from the resort, down Holiday Street, and the shore runs south past Candolim towards Sinquerim, so walk as far as you like. If you swim, stay between the lifeguards' red-and-yellow flags. Come back for lunch and a slow hour by the pool.
By about 3:30 PM, take a car to Fort Aguada at Sinquerim. The Portuguese built it in 1612 to guard against the Dutch and named it after the freshwater spring inside its walls. The old lighthouse dates from 1864, and the old jail, Goa's biggest prison until 2015, now holds a museum on Goa's land, people and freedom struggle. The fort's listed hours end at 5 PM while the museum stays open later, so see the ramparts first and check times on the day.
Finish on the beach at Sinquerim or Candolim for the sunset, then eat in Calangute. From Thursday to Sunday, The Terra at the resort has live bands, DJs or shows from 7:30 to 10 PM. Our guide to Aguada, Chapora and Reis Magos compares the three forts if you want to swap one in.
This is the day for a car with a driver. Leave after an early breakfast for Old Goa, about 9 km east of Panjim, and arrive as the Basilica of Bom Jesus opens at 9 AM (10:30 AM on Sundays). St Francis Xavier's remains rest there in a silver casket, and the Sé Cathedral and the Church of St Francis of Assisi stand close by. With Old Goa's other churches and convents, they have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986, and the Archaeological Museum, open 9 AM to 5 PM, fills in the history.
These are working churches, so cover shoulders and knees, keep your voice low and stand back if a Mass is under way. By noon, head into Panjim for a long lunch of Goan food out of the sun. Spend the late afternoon in Fontainhas, the old Latin Quarter, where brightly painted houses, street art and small artisan shops reward a slow walk.
End at the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, whose white tiers rise like a wedding cake and look their best once they are lit after dark. A separate Old Goa and Panjim day plan has the stop-by-stop version.
Head north past Baga, about 4.5 km from the resort, to Anjuna, where dark rock breaks up the shore between sandy coves. On a Wednesday in season, Anjuna's flea market runs from mid-morning until around sunset, with stalls of clothes, jewellery and souvenirs. Go early, carry cash, bargain politely, and check it is on that week, as the season's start varies.
Take a long lunch in the shade nearby rather than driving back. In the mid to late afternoon, climb to Chapora Fort, the hilltop fort from the film Dil Chahta Hai, with views over the Chapora river and the curve of Vagator's bay. Restoration work began in September 2026 and the local MLA said it was expected to finish by December, so expect some work in progress and check access before you go.
Wear shoes with grip, keep well back from cliff edges and sea rocks, and come down while it is still light. Watch the sunset from Vagator beach below, then let someone sober, ideally a driver, take you home.
Our Front Desk can arrange a car with a driver, a self-drive car, a scooter or a motorcycle. A driver makes most sense on Days 2 and 3, when you would otherwise be parking in Panjim's old lanes or riding home after dark; Day 1 needs little more than your feet and a short ride each way. Distances from the resort to Panjim and both airports are on the location page.
If you hire a scooter, use a registered rental: Goa Tourism warns that hiring unregistered private bikes or cabs can bring a heavy penalty. Helmets are compulsory for rider and pillion alike, and nobody should ride after a drink. For one-off rides, Goa Tourism suggests metered cabs or app taxis such as GoaMiles. Vehicles are banned on the beaches, and so is drinking on the sand, though licensed shacks and restaurants are fine.
A first trip that tries to fit everything in turns into a long drive, so save these for a second visit. With two more days, the five-day itinerary adds a South Goa day and an inland day from the same base.
Yes, if you land by late morning. Check-in is from 2 PM, but you can leave your luggage with us free of charge before then, walk to the beach, and keep the afternoon for Fort Aguada. On the way home, check-out is at 11 AM and luggage can be stored after that too; early check-in and late check-out depend on availability on the day.
In season, yes, if you swim only between the red-and-yellow flags while Drishti's lifesavers are on duty, and never where a red flag flies. Rip currents can run even when the water looks calm, so stay within your depth, never swim alone, after drinking or after sunset, and keep children close.
Partly. During the monsoon, roughly June to September, sea swimming and coastal water sports are prohibited, so beach time means walks well back from the water. Old Goa and Panjim still make a good day, and the forts work between showers if you take care on rocks, which turn slippery in the rain.
Light cotton, a hat, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle, since Drishti's heat advice is shade, sun protection and plenty of water. Add a light scarf or shawl for the churches, and small notes for market stalls and beach shacks.
